What can you do in two hours’ time? Watch two episodes of The Simpsons? Read a chapter or two of a good book? How about getting thousands of pounds of food ready for hungry families? It can be done, at a Community Volunteer Night session. Held each Wednesday of the month from 6:00-8:00 pm in our Shoreline warehouse, a variety of volunteers come together to help process food for distribution to local food banks, hot meal programs, and shelters.
During a typical session, 25-30 volunteers can easily apply labels to 4 tons of canned salmon, repackage corn, carrots, almonds, cereal, or popcorn into family-sized bags each weighing 1-3 pounds, or sort through mountains of food collected from community food drives.
This is a great family activity for volunteers age 6 and older. Pre-registration is required.
