Seattle's Table
Seattle's Table is a Food Lifeline program designed to rescue unused, but wholesome prepared food from food service providers such as restaurants, hotels, caterers, and corporate cafeterias. That food is then distributed on the same day to shelters and meal programs that feed hungry people.
Process:
Seattle's Table drivers are dispatched each morning to respond to donation calls and make regularly scheduled pick-ups. The food is then delivered directly to agencies that serve hot meals.
Donors:Local restaurants, caterers, corporate dining rooms, universities, convention centers, hospitals, grocery stores, and other food service providers.
Safety & Liability:
Food is carefully transported in temperature controlled vehicles under operational guidelines approved by the Seattle/King County Health Department. Donors are protected from liability under the Federal
"Good Samaritan" law.
History:Seattle's Table began in August 1989, with strong support from the Restaurant Association, and local business and civic leaders. It is modeled after several very successful programs now operating in a number of cities across the United States. The program currently distributes more than 1.6 million pounds of food each year.
