A Checking Account with Great Perks

Food Lifeline is able to continue feeding hungry people throughout Western Washington because of your generous support and the help of such organizations as the Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union (SMCU). One of the perks of opening a “Feel Good Checking” account at SMCU is 100 free meals - 100 meals for hungry people, that is!

If you’re thinking of switching banks or opening a new account, keep in mind “Feel Good Checking” with SMCU, because they give you the chance to raise money for Food Lifeline while getting one of the best checking accounts around. SMCU donates $20 to Food Lifeline for each account opened, and this is enough money to provide food for 100 meals. As the demand in our member food banks continues to increase, this is one way you can help us meet that need and get food to the hungry people in our communities who need it most. When the time comes to open a new checking account, be sure to think of Food Lifeline and SMCU, and pass the word along to others who might be interested. Visit https://www.smcu.com/accounts/feel-good.html for more information.

Buy Snickers, help others

SNICKERS® Brand, which has always satisfied hunger, is teaming up with Feeding America, the national hunger relief organization of which Food Lifeline is a member, to 'Bar Hunger.' As part of the 'Bar Hunger' campaign, SNICKERS will donate the equivalent of at least three million meals to Feeding America in 2009, and a portion of these meals will be passed down to Food Lifeline locally.

More importantly, SNICKERS plans to educate and inspire Americans to help through special branding and educational information on its SNICKERS packaging, dedicated national advertising, www.facebook.com/snickers, as well as a series of events throughout the year.

You can support Feeding America and Food Lifeline by:

  • Making the donation to Feeding America via the SNICKERS Facebook page. SNICKERS will match every donation -- up to a total of $25,000 -- beginning July 14
  • Making a $5.00 donation to Feeding America by texting the word “BAR” to 90999** from July 14 through December 31, 2009

Problem Solver's Food Drive in Memory of Brendan Foster

You helped Brenden Foster's wish of feeding those in need come to fruition once again this year! With your support, we raised $23,825 and nearly 13,000 pounds during the Problem Solver's Food Drive in Memory of Brenden Foster. This is enough to provide 105,456 meals for hungry people in local communities. If you were unable to make it out to any of the Fred Meyer locations where the food drive was held, you can still donate now. Thank you for supporting Brenden Foster's wish, and for supporting Food Lifeline.

Sept. 17, 2009

Bag Hunger Luncheon 2009

More than $110,000 was raised to provide more than 550,000 meals toward ending hunger and fulfilling dreams for children in Western Washington at Food Lifeline’s 12th Annual Bag Hunger Luncheon on September 17th. Nearly 300 guests joined us for a moving program highlighted by keynote speaker James Whitfield, former regional Director for Region 10 for the Health and Human Services Department. Mr. Whitfield spoke about the reality that we all are “hungry” for something and yet for some children, their actual hunger prevents them from achieving great things.

Food Lifeline presented five Ending Hunger Awards to honor those individuals and donors who have gone above and beyond their traditional role to support Food Lifeline’s mission to end hunger. Award winners:

  • Outstanding Volunteer Award: The Church of Scientology

  • Outstanding Foundation Donor Award: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

  • Outstanding Individual Award: Kristin Maas

  • Raising Hunger Awareness Award: The Miller|Hull Partnership

  • Outstanding Food Donor Award: SeaShare

Emcees Tom Douglas and Thierry Rautureau kept the event lively, and Food Lifeline President & CEO Linda Nageotte’s heartfelt comments culminated in an unveiling of Food Lifeline’s new logo. Thank you to Title Sponsor Moneytree, Inc. and to Contributing Sponsor The Boeing Company for making this compelling event possible. We also offer tremendous thanks to all our table sponsors, table captains and committee members.

Food Frenzy Celebrates its 20th Year by Breaking Records Once Again!

In honor of Food Frenzy's 20th anniversary, the event truly outdid itself once again. Breaking records on all fronts this year, the number of participants jumped to a whopping 107 from 69 last year! Food Lifeline wants to extend a hearty thank you to all the Food Frenzy participants for your outstanding support of Food Frenzy this year. Together you raised nearly $280,000, enough to provide 1.4 million meals for hungry children. The 10,000 pounds of nutritious food you collected and your tremendous outpouring of volunteer support (over 2,500 hours) mean thousands more meals will reach hungry families this summer.

Congratulations to the top organizations in each category, and remember that the real winners are the hungry kids you're feeding through your generosity and hard work.

Special thanks to Sponsor Wells Fargo Bank; Food Drop-Off Site Sponsor Prolumina; Challenging Firms Davis Wright Tremaine LLP; Bader Martin, P.S.; and The Miller|Hull Partnership, LLP; not to mention the remarkable and ever-enthusiastic 2009 Food Frenzy Committee.

We Took a "Bite" out of Hunger

Crowds of people, good food, and hundreds of Food Lifeline supporters at the Bite of Seattle® -- what could be better? The Alley, hosted by Tom Douglas sponsored by Painted Hills Natural Beef was a huge success. Visitors to The Alley enjoyed delectable tastes from top local chefs while also helping their neighbors in need through Food Lifeline.

The Alley raised more than $28,000 in net proceeds for Food Lifeline, and we had 69 volunteers stationed at donation boxes around the Seattle Center to help reach this amount. Thank you to all who visited The Alley at the Bite of Seattle®, and to our wonderful volunteers who shared their weekend with us.
