Food Frenzy Turns 20!
What could be better than a gift of more than one million meals for hungry children on your 20th birthday? If you're Food Lifeline's award-winning fundraising event, Food Frenzy, it's a perfect fit! This friendly competition between local public sector organizations, law, accounting and design firm marks a major milestone this summer with its 20th anniversary. The event focuses on childhood hunger, an issue that takes on greater significance during the summer months when children are out of school and unable to count on the lunch and, in some cases, breakfast that they receive during the school year. Each year the event kicks off with a call from the "Challenging Firms" - one from each participating sector. This year, Food Frenzy's challenging firms are Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, Bader Martin, P.S. and The Miller|Hull Partnership and is supported by Wells Fargo and the Puget Sound Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (PSALA). The actual Food Frenzy activities take place July 10 through July 24 and the competition is going to be fierce! Participating organizations and firms have been known to hold all sorts of crazy fundraising events, from American Idol-style competitions between nominated partners and employees, "Meal or No Meal" games and Karaoke sing-offs to spaghetti dinners, arts and craft sales and good old bake sales. And, they have a big goal this year - to raise enough funds and food to provide more than 1.3 million meals to hungry children in Western Washington. If your firm or organization would like to participate, please contact Holly Firmin by June 12, 2009 at (206) 545-6600, ext. 3624 or via email today. |

Taking a "Bite" out of Hunger The Bite is back! The 2009 Comcast Bite of Seattle runs from July 17 to 19 at the Seattle Center, and the weekend-long event proudly welcomes back The Alley, hosted by Tom Douglas sponsored by Painted Hills Beef. The Alley benefits Food Lifeline and is a unique dining experience where you can enjoy a variety of delectable food selections from top Seattle-area chefs for a single price. Over the three-day festival weekend, 14 restaurants will participate in The Alley, offering visitors a variety of foods which are sure to please the palate. For $10, visitors will receive a taste from each of the seven restaurants participating daily and a share of all proceeds from The Alley will go directly to Food Lifeline to help your hungry neighbors in need. If you’d rather help in other ways, we are looking for volunteers to help with the donation boxes we will have scattered around the Seattle Center. The Alley is located just north of Key Arena and adjacent to the outdoor Wine & Jazz wine tasting and the 98.9 Smooth Jazz/Sagelands Vineyards stage in the Alki Courtyard so you can enjoy the soothing sounds of jazz along with their mouth-watering munchies. Remember that The Alley hours are different from the Bite: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. For your convenience, The Alley also features an outdoor cafe with sit-down dining.
Be sure to stop by to grab a “bite” at the bite and help your neighbors in need. Check out the menu for The Alley this year. A special thanks goes to Whole Foods for donating $2500 worth of food to The Alley. |

A Concert with a “Helpful” Tune
Rock out and help feed hungry people! Rock for a Remedy, Inc. (RFAR), is partnering with iconic rock duo, Indigo Girls, in an effort to help end hunger in the United States. On July 26th, the group will be at the Woodland Park Zoo where the concert will benefit Food Lifeline. Rock for a Remedy is a non-profit organization that partners with local hunger relief organizations and national touring artists to both gather food and monetary donations as well as encourage youth and adults to better their communities through charitable efforts. At each subsequent stop on the Indigo Girls tour, RFAR will be present and ready to accept non-perishable food donations from fans at the shows. On July 26th, this partnership will be coming to Woodland Park Zoo to benefit the work of Food Lifeline. “Few people realize that there are over 35 million hungry people in the United States who don't make the daily headlines,” says Rock for a Remedy Director, KJ Doyle. "It is a terrible thing to go hungry, but together we can make a difference. During these dark economic times we must remember our friends and neighbors who are struggling to put food on their tables. We look forward to working with RFAR and our concert-goers to share with those who most need our help" says Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls. RFAR's mission is not only to alleviate hunger in North America, but to also encourage and motivate concertgoers to volunteerism and develop sustainable altruistic participation in the music industry at large. Tickets for this show may already be sold out, but if you already have your tickets, or know someone else who is attending the concert on July 26th, be sure to spread the word that they can help their hungry neighbors. Don’t forget to bring some non-perishable food items click here for a list of our most-needed food items. If you can’t make it to the concert, you can still donate now to help Food Lifeline. In addition, for every 4 items donated, fans have the chance to enter a raffle to win signed copy of the Indigo Girls’ latest release, Poseidon and the Bitter Bug, along with other band memorabilia. Rock out this summer and help Food Lifeline continue feeding hungry people in our community. Visit www.rockforaremedy.org for more information! |

A Checking Account with Great Perks Food Lifeline is able to continue feeding hungry people throughout Western Washington because of your generous support and the help of such organizations as the Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union (SMCU). One of the perks of opening a “Feel Good Checking” account at SMCU is 100 free meals - 100 meals for hungry people, that is! If you’re thinking of switching banks or opening a new account, keep in mind “Feel Good Checking” with SMCU, because they give you the chance to raise money for Food Lifeline while getting one of the best checking accounts around. SMCU donates $20 to Food Lifeline for each account opened, and this is enough money to provide food for 100 meals. As the demand in our member food banks continues to increase, this is one way you can help us meet that need and get food to the hungry people in our communities who need it most. When the time comes to open a new checking account, be sure to think of Food Lifeline and SMCU, and pass the word along to others who might be interested. Visit https://www.smcu.com/accounts/feel-good.html for more information. |

A Time to Celebrate!
We are thrilled to tell you about Celebrated Chefs - a terrific fundraising program that provides Food Lifeline with two revenue streams that provide funds for us to feed more of your neighbors at risk of hunger. How it Works: The first revenue stream: Celebrated Chefs is a cookbook featuring 42 recipes (and accompanying pictures!) from the area’s nicest restaurants. Purchase this wonderful cookbook for $25 and Food Lifeline immediately receives $5 from the purchase. The second revenue stream: The purchase of the cookbook automatically enrolls you in the Celebrated Chef’s dining program. When you dine at any of the featured restaurants they automatically donate 5% of your bill to Food Lifeline. The more members we have supporting Food Lifeline through Celebrated Chefs the more money we raise to help feed hungry people. To Purchase: Visit the Celebrated Chefs website at www.celebratedchefs.com and take a look at the great participating restaurants. You can purchase a book directly online and it will be shipped to you. We also have these books available for purchase at our office. If you are stopping by to volunteer anytime soon, be sure to check it out. |
