YOUR VOICE AS A DONATION

Are you interested in donating something in addition to your donation of time or money during Hunger Action Month? You can donate your voice to give hungry children access to nutritious food so they can grow strong and learn well in school. Many of the families we serve utilize federal nutritional programs for children, including school meals, the Summer Food Service Program, and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC).

Every 5 years the United States Congress reviews the programs through the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act, which provides funding and policy to ensure these programs continue to serve millions of children each day. The current Act is set to expire at the end of September, and in preparation, lawmakers are releasing bills to improve these critical programs. We need your help in getting the message out. Share this important message with your US Senator.

“My name is ________, I live in Washington State, and I care about ending child hunger. Please support Child Nutrition Reauthorization legislation that will: Improve the quality of meals for kids, and give programs more money to do it with; Improve access so more kids can participate in the programs, and then make sure they really do; Also, make the program easy to offer. The easier it is to administrate, the more programs we’ll have.”

September is Hunger Action Month, an effort sponsored by Feeding America to raise awareness about hunger. As a part of Hunger Action Month, Feeding America is sponsoring a contest to encourage hunger advocacy participation, like sending the above message to your lawmakers. Participation in the contest not only helps support Child Nutrition Reauthorization legislation and other hunger relief efforts, but also allows Food Lifeline the chance to win a truckload of food!

The online contest lasts from now until the end of September. At the end of September, the food bank with the most accumulated advocacy “minutes” will win a truckload of food. Over the course of the month, you can use the Hunger Action Center’s online tools to help earn minutes for Food Lifeline in the national contest.
